Thomas the Train Themed Party

It's taken me a long time to get things together for this post. I was in Chicago for my nephews 2nd birthday party, which I made the goodies. when we came back I went on another vacation but slowly i got the pictures edited and together to post about it.

As I was saying, my nephew turned 2 years old and his theme was Thomas the Train. I volunteered myself to make the cake since I saw somewhat how to make a Thomas Cake. and also I saw pictures on flickr of the cake which were AMAZING! so I had to try it. The thing that got me a little worried was the face. then I found this video which made it seems really easy. which it was. I also made cute little cupcake toppers which took me forever to get 10 of them assembled. this took me 3 days to make. Thats all I did for 3 days straight. was baking, decorate, decorate, thomas face, assemble mini thomas wheels, and construct the big thomas cake. ohh I almost forgot. I also pre made the base while i was at home and covered it with fondant. that saved me a bunch of time. Thankful I didn't have to make it myself, thats what boyfriends are for. carpentry isn't one of my fortays. especially since I don't have the tools for it haha. My mom made the goodie bags that you can see on the top left hand corner on the top pictures. Everything you see where ideas I found on the internet, from google, tumblr, etsy, and flickr. But i also started looking things up around a month ahead. I have no life sometimes..

Gumpaste Train cake topper

So, I made this blog to post my "doings" of over the summer to keep me entertained and track of my stuff. Also so I can practice since I won't be taking any classes over the summer.

I found this tutorial on how to to gum paste train cake topper that I wanted to give it a try. Also since my lovely, almost 2 year old, spoiled nephew birthday theme is Thomas the Train.

I've worked with gum paste briefly in my cake decorating class, but it was safe to save it was my actual first time since the Chief didn't really teach us much.

I didn't make myself a batch of gum paste. I actually bought the ready to use one from michael since you have to make it a day in advance, according to the recipe my Chief gave us. this took me about 2 hours to make, which it quite a lot for the size it is. It was pretty easy working with gum paste, especially in comparison to fondant.
